Albertsons and Save Mart have supported The Salvation Army's Thanksgiving meal program, and our church's collection for this worthwhile program, for the last 14 years. Donations were accepted during Sunday services and online at the church's website, www.tccucc.org. When called on, Save Mart and...

The Litter Loathers is a group of residents who have pride in our community. They care so much that they come out at least a couple of times a year to personally pick up roadside trash from various roads. On Sept. 15, nine people showed up on a beautiful day to clean up from the gate on Bear Valley Road to SR 202, including a section of Cummings Valley Road. You can see from the picture above that they accomplished a lot! Pictured from left to right: Mike Coughlin, Greg Chick and Kathy...

Four of the nine dedicated Litter Loathers of Bear Valley Springs who showed up on Nov. 15 found a sunny, but cool and very windy day for picking up roadside trash on Bear Valley Road from the gate to Hwy 202. In fact, the conditions were so difficult that the section of Cummings Valley Road from the school to Hwy 202 had to be put off for better weather. The hard workers, which appear in the picture are (from top left) Mitch McDiffett, Shawn Smith, Greg Hahn and Greg Matheson. The hard workers...

My church, Tehachapi Community Church, recently collected from our congregation to provide Thanksgiving dinners for the Salvation Army to distribute to less fortunate families. • Yellow starthistle is about to bloom

    Laurie Rude-Betts, contributing writer|Jul 17, 2021

Yellow starthistle, Centaurea solstitialis, is an invasive weed and it needs to be dealt with now before it spreads any further. The photo in this article is of a stand of "bolted" yellow starthistle (YST). YST is bolted when, from the rosette (like a mustard rosette) which lies close to the ground, stems are sent upward. Beyond the ribboned plant you can see dozens of other bolted plants. It has a blue-green color, which a trained eye can distinguish from mustard or other weeds from quite a...

  • Tehachapi Community Church Vaccine Project

    Laurie Rude-Betts|Mar 27, 2021

Saturday, March 13 dawned a little warmer and clearer after wintery weather. Volunteers gathered across from City Hall in Tehachapi to distribute flyers to the doors of many downtown-area residents. These colorful flyers display information about My Turn, the State-sponsored way to get the COVID-19 vaccine. If you tried yourself several weeks ago to get an appointment for a COVID-19 shot, you know what a hassle it was. Three Tehachapi-area women – Kathy Murguia, Eileen Buterra and Laurie Rude B...

Tehachapi Community Church, UCC, at East E and Green Streets, has been collecting from our congregation to provide support for the Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving dinner program for the less fortunate families of Tehachapi. The supermarkets came through in a big way to add to TCC’s support. We in Tehachapi are fortunate to hav...

Thanks so much to Carol Hellyer, Romelle and Michael Kemp, Kathy Underwood, Ingrid Lindquist, Linda and Rick Flores, Molly Mackin, Bob Tebbe and Lori Frear for all of the trash that you picked up from the Bear Valley Springs gate to Hwy. 202. It was a great day for picking up, as you can see from the pictures. We appreciated that, once again, Greg Hahn arranged with CSD's Bill Malinen for the "shoulder work ahead" signs to be out on Bear Valley Rd. to give drivers an awareness of people along...

  • Yellow Starthistle

    Laurie Rude-Betts|Aug 6, 2016

If you have been a resident of the Tehachapi area for long, you hopefully know to keep your eye out in your yard for that nasty weed with the nice name, yellow starthistle (YST). This is the time of year when it becomes very visible as it begins to get a pretty yellow flower surrounded by some very wicked-looking needles, which neither humans nor animals would want to touch. This weed is particularly bad because it will overtake any area, as it can out-compete any grasses or other growth with it...
