    Laurie Rude-Betts, contributing writer|Dec 4, 2021

This is the eleventh year we have experienced this support from them! My church, Tehachapi Community Church, recently collected from our congregation to provide Thanksgiving dinners for the Salvation Army to distribute to less fortunate families. Donations were accepted during Sunday services and online at the church's website, tccucc.org. When called on, Save Mart and...

  • Deleting unused accounts, securing Google Sync

    Greg Cunningham, owner of Tech-hachapi|Dec 4, 2021

Data breaches are common. Security fails even on major sites like Yahoo, Goldman Sachs, Home Depot and more. But what about all the smaller sites like that Vauxhall restoration forum site you signed up for? Or that mailing list for left-handed fishing lures? If the big guys have trouble keeping the doors locked, you know the little guys have trouble, too. So it makes sense to delete accounts with as many of those old, unused services as you can. While many of these accounts may only have your...

    Diana Wade, LDA|Dec 4, 2021

So the question comes up, "How do I transfer assets out of a trust to the beneficiaries?" One example might be Debbie sets up a living trust for her own benefit with herself as the initial trustee. Debbie names her daughter Carol as the successor trustee, and names her grandchildren as the ultimate beneficiaries of the trust. Debbie would then formally transfer items of property to the trust by putting her name as the trustee of the trust on the relevant deeds, accounts and title slips. At...

    Tanya Joham, staff writer|Dec 4, 2021

On Nov. 17, the Golden Hills Community Services District (GHCSD) met for their regularly scheduled board meeting. Despite some technical difficulties, I was able to view most of the live-streamed meeting. A proposal to annex a property in unincorporated Tehachapi in the vicinity of Schout Rd. and Hwy. 202 was thoroughly discussed. The property owner has plans to open an assisted living facility, but needs access to water. Although there is currently a well on the property, it has been deemed...

Aha! flies ExpressJet 50-seat Embraer E145 aircrafts, with two seats on one side and one seat on the other, which leaves no one in the "dreaded" middle seat. The...

  • See it, hear it, do it now

    Mel White, contributing writer|Dec 4, 2021

My friend Vicki emailed me a copy of the following letter, which was reportedly written by an 83-year-old woman to her friend. I haven't been able to find out who wrote it originally, and you'll note it is a bit dated (i.e. the grocery costs), but the words are wise and as true today as they ever were. In keeping with my last missive on being thankful for the little things, I think this speaks to that effort, as well. So, I wish to dedicate the words in this letter to all of you who find a way...

  • The rest of the story

    Pat Gracey, contributing writer|Dec 4, 2021

There used to be a radio program whose host gave news as it was supposed to have happened. After telling the tale, he would then say, "...and now, for the rest of the story." He would then give some interesting facts that completed the tale. His name was Paul Harvey. I'm no Paul Harvey but it seems that when I hear someone telling a story of an experience of a local or long past happening, I often remember a little tidbit that was left out of the tale and I want to add it. Usually, I try to...

  • Hopper cars rolling in Tehachapi

    Ed Gordon, contributing writer|Dec 4, 2021

Hopper cars appeared in the 1830s, either covered or uncovered. They weren't highly used until the 1970s when jumbo hoppers were developed that could carry more than boxcars. Hoppers transport bulk material such as grain, cement, rock, etc., and have doors or a drop bottom for unloading. The number of bays a covered hopper has depends on the weight of the product. Heavier products, like cement, travel in covered hoppers with fewer bays. The floor of the hopper is slanted to help unloading. If th...
