    Greg Cunningham|Jul 20, 2019

Scammers have discovered that Facebook is a good vehicle for tricking people into giving them money, usually through the Facebook Messenger app, but also using some Facebook games. The latest scam tricks people into thinking they gave money to a terrorist group, and now the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is after them. Here's how it works: The scammers contact their victim using Messenger or an in-game message. Then they build up a relationship, usually some form of a romantic...

  • Rent increases

    Karen Drum-Sousa|Jul 20, 2019

Historically, landlords and tenants have been on opposite sides of the fence. Thankfully, the Fair Housing Laws define the rights of both as well as all aspects of housing transactions from rental, sales, realtors, management companies, insurance, etc. This column is designed to bridge the gap between the two. Rent increases are covered under the California Civil Code, sections 827a and 827b. Unless you live in an RSO (Rent Stabilization Ordinance) area, a landlord can increase the rent, as...

  • 'All Together Now' a monthly meeting for all believers

    Jul 20, 2019

Talk to any musician and they will tell you, the most important thing for any group is that they stay “all together.” It is that way with all organizations, and even more so for the church. We must work together. The Bible teaches that all followers of Jesus are one, and we are called the body of Christ. In Tehachapi, Christians meet in more than 20 different buildings, but there is really only one church in town. That one church includes all who are sincerely trusting in Jesus, no matter which fellowship we choose to attend. Since January of...

Most people who were born or attended elementary school in the U.S. after 1970 have been vaccinated with the...

  • Using an advocate vs. an attorney, what's the difference?

    Diana Wade, Disability Advocate|Jul 20, 2019

I often get calls asking about whether someone should use an attorney or an advocate. My short answer is, “there is no difference.” Attorneys and advocates both represent claimants the same way and have the same authority. One major difference is that most advocates have not gone to law school. Many, like myself, have been paralegals for many years. I have been a paralegal for almost 40 years and have spent 24 years as an advocate. When I graduated from paralegal school I decided that I wan...

  • A man to remember

    Pat Gracey|Jul 20, 2019

When I occasionally travel Willow Springs Road toward Rosamond and Lancaster, I pass Truman Road and Hamilton Road. For years I have told anyone who would listen that the two roads do not stand for an early American statesman, Alexander Hamilton, or former President Harry Truman. The two roads are a reminder of Truman Hamilton former lawman and Constable of the 11th Judicial Township. Beginning his job in 1922, residents saw a man of substantial size, both in height and weight. His size alone...

Summer is the time for fun and travel, and the Kick-Stomp Ensemble should bring plenty of both when their wild mixture of edgy folk, punk and world music comes to Fiddlers Crossing on Saturday, July 27. The travel, of course, will be a musical journey throughout the world – spanning many cultures, traditions and languages. This eclectic quartet will even take us to a cantina in a galaxy far, far away, playing a popular tune on the banjo. Be prepared, however, for a world slightly twisted and p...
