  • Evelyn Dignam August 27, 1921 – August 25, 2022

    Linda Carhart, Linda Carhart|Oct 1, 2022

This is not an obituary but a story of a life well lived. At just two days before turning 101, my mom, Evelyn Dignam decided she was ready to leave this earthly plain. Her life, like so many, was full of ups and downs. She lived through the depression. Her childhood was not always a happy one, so much so, that she would rarely talk about it. Evelyn was a fighter and tried not to let things get her down. She married William Dignam from Bay Ridge Brooklyn in 1942. They loved and supported six...

(Tickets must be purchased to play in the kidzone.) In recent years more than ten thousand people have attended the festival, so be sure to make your hotel reservations ahead of time. Enj...

  • Having a mom, being a mom, seeing a mom

    Linda Carhart, contributing writer|Apr 30, 2022

My mom, Evelyn Dignam, turned 100 in August. Dad died 27 years ago, and mom moved near our family 25 years ago. Until age 97 she was independent, could keep up with me and was full of life. A few falls later, we moved her into our home in July of 2019. I've always felt loved and respected by my mom and I've looked up to my mom. That's what is hard about living with a shell of the woman she used to be. These days her short-term memory is very poor. Questions and conversations are limited and...

Evelyn has created a legacy of six children, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren (plus one on the way) and 1 great, great grandchild. Evelyn was born in Buffalo, New York on Aug. 27, 1921. • New times, new approach

Linda Carhart, President, Rotary Club of Tehachapi|Apr 11, 2020

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I can’t really answer which one they are for you but I can say that they are certainly different times. The Rotary Club of Tehachapi is taking a different approach to connecting with our members. One of the best things about Rotary, and our club in particular, is that we are a very social group. We start our meetings by mingling and shaking hands. This is such a strong tradition that should you forget or miss shaking anyone’s hand you could be issued a fine. So how do we deal with our cur...
