The community had a great time shopping at the vendors’ booths in Central Park. Tehachapi TPops conducted by James Peck and Amy R. Rodriguez played a 40-minute music set, which included patriotic standards, Americana melodies, and fun pop-rock tunes. We all had a blast, but it took a lot of practicing and work to get it done....
There was a great showing at the Walmart Car & Motorcycle Show on June 30 in Tehachapi. Local Bakersfield Hard Tops, who race at Bakersfield Speedway dirt track, were in attendance. All proceeds went towards the Children's Miracle Network....

The City of Tehachapi held the grand opening of Valley Park, 704 W. Valley Blvd., on Monday, June 10. The community attended the ceremony, which included a ribbon cutting, the opportunity for children to put their handprints in a strip of concrete, a giveaway of 200 soccer balls and free soccer clinics from THS Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer teams. A great crowd showed up for the 2024 Bear Valley Springs Renaissance Faire, put on by the Bear Valley Springs Cultural Arts Association. There was lots to see, including period-style live music, fencing, jousting, sword/shield competitions and more. I enjoyed the music group "The Nightingales," especially their cover version of "Da Full Rigged Ship." Terri and Kathleen from the "The Nightingales" will perform with the TPOPs Orchestra for the 4th of July celebration at 11 a.m. in Central Park....
The Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District honored our fallen military personnel on May 27 at Philip Marx Central Park. A large crowd gathered to remember those who have given their lives for our freedoms. Photos were displayed of fallen service members. If you're a rocker of music, then Tehachapi Winery Music Festival was the place to be! The seats were empty because the dance floor was full. People jumped up when they heard their favorite song playing, letting the vibrations move them in such liberating ways, and making connections to each band member. The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) held the 2024 SoCal League Championship Race on May 12 in Tehachapi. The race was held on the trails owned and maintained by the Tehachapi Mountain Trails Association (TMTA). Tehachapi's Mountain Bike Team participated in the event. Artist were seen painting en plein air around Tehachapi on May 18. Many of the nearly 50 artists who visited Tehachapi from May 16-19 were out and about on Demo Day, giving the public a chance to watch them begin their work for the July 19-21 Art 2024 Tehachapi show. Among them were Tehachapi muralist Lyn Bennett painting en plein air at the Depot and 2024 Featured Artist Laura Wambsgans spent the day painting the vineyard at Tehachapi Wine and Cattle Company....
As always, the 3rd annual TNAZ Cruizin Car Show was a big hit on May 18. The show brought in more than 60 hot rods and custom cars. A fantastic mix of historical American cars from Ford to Chevy to Oldsmobile. My favorite was a local Tehachapi car. A 1937 Oldsmobile restored by Tom from Tehachapi. Originally Tom was trying to sell the Oldsmobile for a friend as a favor and he just could not find a buyer. So, Tom got the Oldsmobile for himself to work on. It turned out to be a labor of love...
On April 5, Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District's Tots Program hosted their annual Tots Art Gala at the ABIAC gym. This year's theme was Tots Glows Wild. When entering the exhibition visitors were greeted by a darkened room that was lined with glowing artwork, lit up by black lights. It was quite a site! Markos D1 Salon celebrated their grand opening on Feb. 22 at 113 S. Green St., located inside an historic building in Downtown Tehachapi. Markos, CEO, recording artist and model, joined the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce. Dignitaries from the city and county were on hand to present Certificates of Recognition for Markos D1 Salon's contributions to the community. The Tehachapi Symphony Holiday Concert at Country Oaks Baptist Church was fantastic, as always. It was a very chilly night on Dec. 8, but the cool weather put us all in the Christmas spirit. At 5 p.m. on Dec. 16, local veterans groups gathered at Freedom Plaza to place wreaths before the monuments representing the U.S. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Merchant Marines.
