    Thank you Lorena Semerenko and Amber Mitchell for your support of the annual American Association of University Women fundraiser. When approached to continue that which Will Viner started over 15 years ago, the new owners of Tehachapi Hitching Post Theater did not even skip a beat.     With the help of P-Dubs restaurant, the American Association of University Women celebrated our 2024 award recipients at the scholarship dinner on June 2. This incredible sampling from our community included Ella Jacobs and Tristan Marks, who were chosen by faculty at Jacobsen Middle School for their scholarship, attitude and high ideals.     We recently had a big meeting! Elections for 2024-25 officers were held. Jeanette Crounse performed a memorable installation. Jane Hanley-Custer will continue as our fearless leader and president, Nettie Farrar will move to VP Programs, Lauren Hollen will continue as VP Membership, Joan Pogon-Cord will continue as VP Scholarship and Joanne Beckett will continue as Treasurer.     The final fundraiser of the season will prove to be exciting and fun. If you follow the BeeKay Theatre, you know this community is loaded with talent. That talent is expressed in our community theater and “Murder on the Orient Express” is a great showcase for it.     On Nov. 15 at 4 p.m., local author, Shane McGarrett will speak at AAUW General Meeting about facing new challenges. If you don’t know Shane, then you have not met this force to be reckoned with. A feminist from birth, she was the first woman to be certified as a jet engine mechanic at March Air Force Base. Shane’s Air Force story and more in her book “Out of Service.” After four years with the Air Force Shane continues to work in a “man’s world” at Lockheed as an inspector with security clearance.     The Scholarship Fund for Women (SFFW) is the vehicle through which The Tehachapi Mountain Branch of AAUW gives local scholarships. Since this branch’s inception, we have given out more than a quarter million dollars in college scholarships to local high school and re-entry students. The SFFW is funded by all of us.     We are happy to announce that we will once again be holding our annual scholarship fundraiser at the BeeKay Theatre. We are going to see the play “Clue” on Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $30. We have 80 tickets to sell, in addition, we have 22 more that we are donating to Mountain Pathways for their members to attend.     The Scholarship Fund for Women offers a scholarship to one Tehachapi area woman who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree or credential. The applicant must be beginning or continuing her studies and must have taken (1) a break between high school and college, and/or (2) a hiatus from college, and/or (3) have received this scholarship in the past.
