Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
AAUW of Tehachapi
We recently had a big meeting! Elections for 2024-25 officers were held. Jeanette Crounse performed a memorable installation. Jane Hanley-Custer will continue as our fearless leader and president, Nettie Farrar will move to VP Programs, Lauren Hollen will continue as VP Membership, Joan Pogon-Cord will continue as VP Scholarship and Joanne Beckett will continue as Treasurer. The board welcomes Jackie Estes as Secretary. Jane was awarded her presidential pin from the branch. We are grateful to the officers for your willingness and efforts on behalf of the membership.
Bugs Fontaine reminded us that the Scholarship Dinner is 5 p.m. on June 2 at P-Dubs Brew Pub/Mountain Bowling in town. Please plan to attend. We will be hearing from and celebrating the six high school seniors who received scholarships. Cost is $30, contact Barbara Wood for reservations at (661) 822-4953 and mail checks to Barbara at 21275 Jeffery Rd., Tehachapi.
Jan Roberts also gave a reminder about the Tech Trek pre-celebration for our six participants from the 7th grade, their families and our community. Tech trek is a one-week residential summer camp designed to encourage young women to explore the STEM fields. Approximately 900 girls from California attend this annually. Our send off celebration will be an ice cream social at the Tehachapi Community Church at 2 p.m. on June 1. Don't forget to stop by and give this great cause some sweet support!
Our last membership meeting of the year gave us a peek into what Nettie will be offering next year for programs. Way to go Nettie! Shelley Goodell spoke from Hoffman Hospice about the volunteer program that she coordinates there and volunteer opportunities in Tehachapi. She was both articulate and impassioned. Our snacks were provided by Nettie and could have just about substituted for dinner!
Thank you one and all for your attendance and participation once again, this is essential when we bring in these great speakers.
The planning meeting for next year will be June 15 at 10 a.m. at the Tehachapi Community Church, 100 East E Street.
