  • Monster Hunt in Tehachapi

    Veronica Wilson, MA|Oct 24, 2020

Halloween is an exciting time of year, but this year Halloween might look a little bit different. That doesn’t mean it won’t be fun though! The Tehachapi Library has been working with local, downtown businesses to put together a Monster Hunt. The monster hunters at the library need help. There are monsters loose downtown, and we need someone to help us find them all. Starting October 21, you can pick up information on where these monsters might be lurking. You could walk around downtown to fin...

  • Summer reading is still on!

    Veronica Wilson, MA|Jul 18, 2020

We know that the Summer Reading Program is a little different this year since all the activities are online instead of in person, but one thing is the same: we still have prizes for you! You can log your reading on the Beanstack app just like last year (if you need more information about how that works, visit www.kerncoutnylibrary.org/src or give us a call). Once you have completed your reading, 10 books or 10 hours you get to choose, you can make an appointment to come pick up your prizes. As...

  • We've missed you!

    Veronica Wilson, MA|Jun 6, 2020

We here at the Tehachapi Library have missed you! But the good news is we are starting a phased reopening that will begin early June! Our services will be a little different, but you'll be able to get books again as soon as June 17. If you have any books still out feel free to put them in our drop box, but the due dates have all been extended to July 2 to give everyone time to get their items back. Starting Wednesday, June 3 you will be able to call us at the branch, and we will help you with re...

  • Our building is closed but we are still here

    Veronica Wilson, MA|Apr 11, 2020

I know, we all miss gathering and seeing each other face to face. Having to stay home can be a hardship, but we at the library want all our favorite patrons to stay healthy and happy during these trying times. We may not be able to go to the library, but we want everyone in the community to know that we are still here. Our digital library is always open 24 hours a day. You can borrow eBooks, audio books, comics and even movies from our online apps. You can download the app onto a device or...

  • It already feels like summer at the Library

    Veronica Wilson, MA|Feb 15, 2020

You wouldn't know it by the weather outside, but things are heating up at the library. Even though it is still winter, we are getting in gear to kick off our summer reading challenge. Last year, our summer reading challenge had 370 participants, but we also had almost 2,000 people attend our programs in June and July, and we served over 600 free lunches through our lunch at the library program in conjunction with Tehachapi Unified School district. Our kickoff event last year was Tehachapi's...

  • Audio books are not cheating

Veronica Wilson, MA, Branch Supervisor for Tehachapi and California City Libraries|Feb 1, 2020

I love books. I will read an entire book because I like the way the cover fits in my hands or because its cover has a specific texture. Walking into libraries and used books stores has always made me happy just because of the smell and feel of the books. That being said, I love eBooks! There is something wonderful about knowing that if I finish the second book in a series at 1 a.m., I can instantly download the third one without having to wait! I also love audio books. Who doesn't like having so...

  • Anime Club at the Tehachapi Library

    Veronica Wilson|Jan 18, 2020

Many think of the library as a sort of time capsule that hasn't changed much over the years: a quiet place where you might go to find a book or maybe use a computer, but if this is all you think happens at the library, you haven't been to our library lately. The library does still provide books and a quiet place to study and read if you need it, but you will get a glimpse of something completely different if you go to the Tehachapi Library, located at 212 S Green St., on a Friday afternoon once...
