Summer reading is still on!

We know that the Summer Reading Program is a little different this year since all the activities are online instead of in person, but one thing is the same: we still have prizes for you! You can log your reading on the Beanstack app just like last year (if you need more information about how that works, visit http://www.kerncoutnylibrary.org/src or give us a call). Once you have completed your reading, 10 books or 10 hours you get to choose, you can make an appointment to come pick up your prizes.
As always, we have free books for all ages, but this year the Friends of the Library has decided to add a little something extra. Every participant will receive a $10 gift certificate for a local business here in Tehachapi! This is made possible by the generous donation to our used books sales, the hard work of our Friends of the Library members and a generous grant from Cheers to Charity. We usually ask local businesses for donations of prizes so that we can spend our budget on live programs and events, but this year we know that times are a little tight for many of our local businesses, so we want to spend our money on them. Our Friends are buying a variety of gift cards from places like Red House BBQ, Steampunk Café and Carlos’ Donuts, so that everyone who finishes their summer reading will be sure to have a prize that they can redeem right here in Tehachapi. Everyone who finishes will also be entered in our drawing to win the grand prize: a Chrome Book which is also provided by our Friends.
If you need books to complete your summer reading log, give us a call. We are open for curbside pick-up appointments Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 6 p.m. You can reach us at (661) 822-4938. Once you have an appointment, you can come by and we will bring your items out to you in your car. No need to even come to the door.
