On July 18, Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall, in the capacity of founder and president of Hall Ambulance, presented the Tehachapi City Council with an AED and AED Housing Unit to be placed in council chambers. This is the third of eight units that Hall Ambulance is donating for the council chambers of the eight incorporated cities within the company's 911 paramedic response areas. Last year Hall also donated an AED Unit to Recreation and Park's Dye Natatorium.

An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia in a patient and can shock the heart back into healthy rhythm. With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layperson. An AED can make a dramatic difference when used in the first few minutes of someone suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, prior to the arrival of ambulance paramedics and public safety personnel.

"As the 911 paramedic provider for nearly 90% of Kern County, we have witnessed firsthand the difference early CPR and defibrillation by an AED can make,"said Hall. He added that the company would be happy to provide any training should the council desire it.
