Honor for military

Forde Shorts

Above, top photo, Jason Meyer, 14, of Rosamond, salutes during a ceremony May 12, 2016, at Love's Travel Stop for the Fallen Soldier Cart that is being transported from Seattle to Washington, D.C. accompanied by patriotic fanfare and motorcycle escorts of veterans. The carrier, seen in the lower photo on the left, will be used for the transport of deceased service members. "We don't want them treated as cargo," escort James Rea said. During transport, a cart carrying a deceased veteran will be taken to a hangar instead of sitting in an aircraft on the tarmac. Escorts will sleep on cots and stay with it until it reaches its destination. "It's for all military, not just killed in action," Rea said.

Lower photo – Jim Rice, commander of the Bear Valley Springs veterans Association and chairman of the Memorial Day Parade, greets local queens and princesses who came to honor the cart as it passed through Tehachapi. The group includes Young Miss Rosamond Makayla Vaquilar, Little Miss Rosamond Katie Jorgensen, Miss Young Rosamond Princess Nissa Vasquez, Tiny Miss Rosamond Kaleeya Ikahihifo, Tiny Rosamond princesses Mae Brisco and Briley Berden, Young Miss Tehachapi Kyla Beeson, Tiny Miss Greater Kern Cities Lucy Chavez, Miss Teen Inland Cities United States Tiffany Rea, Teen Miss Tehachapi Kristin Rodriguez, Little Miss Tehachapi Kendra Bell, Miss Greater Central Valley Rheanna Bell and Young Miss Antelope Valley Sami Howard.
