Round 'em up - May 12, 2016 – Stallion Springs Police Chief Mike Grant wearing the gear (breathing apparatus, boots, gloves) his department needed to enter a trash-filled, moldy, unlivable residence on Buckpasser Drive that he called a "house of horrors." Three police officers, four Sheriffs Deputies and five Kern County Animal Control personnel cleared out fifty neglected pigs and several dogs and cats during two days of the pig roundup. Neighbors in the beautiful canyon had endured the odor and mess for 18 years as numerous health citations failed to propel the owner to correct the situation permanently. The water was shut off four weeks earlier in the house, which recently became bank-owned and will require a haz-mat crew even to demolish it. The pigs, which are actually pretty cute, are being checked by a veterinarian and are in good hands.
