An Ice Cream Social, to benefit the community food pantry at the Community Church of California City, 21001 Conklin Blvd., will be held Friday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Education Building. There will be ice cream (either dish or cone), cakes, pies/cobblers, cupcakes and cookies, with sun tea and lemonade beverages. The California City Friends of the Library will have a Great Book Exchange on Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Cal City Branch of the Kern County Library. The workroom at the library is full and the Friends cannot take in any more books until we clean out a lot. So, we had an idea to just exchange books.
