"Someday, I'm going to open a gift shop!" I would declare this each time I left a gift shop during retail therapy sessions with my friends. Fast forward to retirement in late 2019, after 20 years of teaching first, second and third graders only to be isolated by COVID-19. Although I had family close by, the pandemic made it difficult to cultivate new friendships and experience all that Tehachapi has to offer.

Once the city began to reopen, an opportunity presented itself where my son's tour business required kitchen space and the selected location allowed space for me to realize my dream. Things fell into place quickly, and soon we were working with the city and health department to build out my new gift shop.
Although there were some bumps in the road, Simply Perfect Gifts and Décor was opened on Nov. 22, 2022. Immediately, the communities of Tehachapi, Golden Hills, Alpine Forest, Stallion Springs and Bear Valley Springs embraced our presence and it was a wonderful feeling! News spread quickly of our new location, even reaching the East Coast.
One particular heartwarming experience took place during the week before Christmas of our opening year. A woman from New Jersey contacted us, and she was particularly distraught that a gift she had specifically chosen for someone in Stallion Springs was not going to be delivered on time. The panic and stress in her voice spoke volumes to me and we video chatted while I showed her various items throughout the store. As we continued to talk, she became more comfortable and made her selection. We wrapped it for her and delivered it to the intended party the next day. She called us back to thank us over and over again, and to let us know the next time we're in New Jersey to look her and her husband up.
