Celebration of Life
Arthur Ray Tipton, 80, passed away at his home on Thursday, Feb. 29.
Art was born on Dec. 4, 1943 to Paul and Gladys Tipton in Napa, California. Moving to Tehachapi at age 12, he was a Tehachapi resident for over 68 years. Art was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army from February 1965 to February 1967. In October 1967, Art began working for CalPortland Cement and retired in 2003 as a Layout Welder.
Art was an avid trap shooter and belonged to the Tehachapi Sportsman Club where he spent many Wednesday and Saturday mornings. He enjoyed camping at Red's Meadow Valley in Mammoth Lakes, California and looked forward to visiting his favorite national monument, Devils Postpile every summer.
He could be stern, but was kind, generous, independent and hardworking. He could fix anything, loved music, especially Elvis, enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, playing Super Lotto, biscuits and gravy and Taster's Choice Instant Coffee. Art had a vast knowledge of antiques and could not pass up a yard or estate sale. He treasured his family immensely. He provided love and support to his daughters and grandchildren in every way possible.
Art is survived by his daughters Rebecca Bush of Elk Grove, California; Christine Powell, son-in-law John Powell of Tehachapi and grandchildren Taylor Evans, Nickolas Powell, Chandler Bush and Allison Bush. Our memories of dad/papa Art are irreplaceable. He was our hero and we had the privilege to look up to him in everything.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, who he considered his "best in the world," parents Paul and Gladys, brothers Edwin Tipton and Leroy Tipton, and sisters Gloria Tipton and Margaret Grimes.
A Celebration of Life was held on March 15 at Grace Fellowship of Tehachapi, 326 E. Tehachapi Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tehachapi Sportsman Club.
Wood Family Funeral Service has been entrusted with his care. http://www.woodmortuary.net/.
