Democrats recognize volunteers

Provided.

Jane Tanaka and Greg Chick.

Jane Tanaka and Greg Chick have been honored as recipients of the first annual Belcher Benevolent-Volunteer of the Year award. Named for the founders of Tehachapi Mountain Democratic Club, Thurm and Phyllis Belcher, the award was created to recognize club members who go above and beyond the call of duty in volunteering their time and resources to help with the events and direction of the club.

Jane and Greg began coming to Tehachapi eight years ago and three years ago they moved here fulltime. When they heard about the TMDC, they became members and immediately began attending regularly and helping with many of the club projects. Jane said they just do the "grunt work." Both of them have been very loyal about working on the club's responsibility for highway clean up. Greg conducts the required training for volunteers and both are noted for the big bags of trash they collect.

They attend nearly every meeting and event, and volunteer in many ways ... from setting up, cleaning up, preparing food, writing postcards or making phone calls. They are truly a wonderful addition to the club and worthy of this award.

Tehachapi Mountain Democratic Club meets the first Thursday of each month at Kelcy's Restaurant. The next meeting will be March 7 with a social hour at 5 p.m. and meeting begins at 6 p.m. See the website http://www.tehachapidemocrats.com for more information.
