Rotary Club of Tehachapi

August 19, 2023

Pat Doody.

On Thursday, Aug. 17, representatives from the City of Tehachapi and members of the Tehachapi Rotary Club dedicated a Peace Pole in Centennial Plaza. Rotary International is sponsoring poles all over the world this year and there are currently 50,000 of them around the world. Each location chooses eight languages to be inscribed on the pole with "May peace prevail on earth." The City and Tehachapi Rotary chose English, Spanish, Kawaiisu, German, Hindi, Hebrew, Chinese and Ibibio (Nigerian). There is also a plaque in Braille. From left in the photo are Councilwoman Susan Wiggins, Rotary President Paul Kaminski, Councilwoman Joan Pogon-Cord, City Manager Greg Garrett and Mayor Michael Davies.

This is the local Rotary Club's second Peace Pole placed in Tehachapi. Earlier in the year, a Peace Pole was placed on the grounds of Valley Oaks Charter School in Old Town.

The Rotary Club of Tehachapi is a volunteer service organization with the motto, "Service Above Self." The club meets on Thursdays at noon.
