Community group recognition, May proclaimed Community Action Month

At the May 15 City Council meeting, Mayor Michael Davies presented a Certificate of Recognition to the community group known as #LoveTehachapi, thanking them for organizing the litter pick up day on April 29. The group collected litter throughout the city filling a city trailer. They also visited local small businesses giving away gift baskets as a thank you for their commitment to the city. From left: Mike Safford, Jimmy Patrick, Debbi Koontz, Shawny Patrick and Denise Madden. Madden is the new head of #LoveTehachapi.

The Tehachapi City Council meets on the first and third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. They are currently meeting at the Police Department Community Room, 220 W. C St.

Mayor Michael Davies proclaimed May to be Community Action Month at the May 15 City Council meeting. Denise Boshers and Pam Pritka, from Community Action Partners Kern, received the proclamation and told the Council that CAPK has dozens of volunteer-based programs, including the food bank that has operated for over 30 years. The organization provided over 33 million pounds of food during COVID. Other programs include Child Development, Health and Nutrition Services, Youth and Family Services and other community services including the 2-1-1 Call Center.
