On April 13, Rex Moen, representing Friends of the Flight Test Museum at Edwards Air Force Base, spoke to Tehachapi Rotarians about the progress made in building a new flight test museum outside the gate at Edwards.

The 15,000 square foot flight museum will contain the memorabilia from 75 years of Edwards history, which is currently housed inside the base. Work on the new museum began in 2018.

May 1 marks the kickoff of the drive by Friends of the Flight Test Museum to raise the funds needed to complete the building and surrounding complex. So far the concrete foundation has been poured and part of the framing is completed. The museum complex is to be funded by private donations, grants and contributions.

When completed, the complex will include space to exhibit most of the Flight Test Museum's collection of historic aircraft and artifacts including artifacts from space. There will also be two STEM classrooms, the Robert A. (Bob) Hoover Flight Test Research Library, the Society of Pilot Archives, a gift shop, offices and a restoration facility.

Moen said the entire project will be funded by donations and private funding. Anyone wishing to become a lifetime member of Friends of the Flight Test Museum or find out more about the organization can visit their website at http://www.flighttestmuseum.org or call (661) 277-8050.
