On Tuesday, May 4, the City of Tehachapi was notified its podcast TehachaPod has been honored by the 27th Annual Communicator Awards (Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts) as a recipient of the Award of Distinction in two categories: Government Special Episode for "Salute to Freedom" July 4th episode and for Individual Episodes by a Government Agency.

"Our goal and my desire have always been to be as effective at communicating with our community as we possibly can, this is an acknowledgement that we are continuing to be leaders in how government should share information with its citizens," said City Manager and TehachaPod co-host Greg Garrett.

The "Salute to Freedom" TehachaPod episode featured special messages to our active military and veterans from Congressman Kevin McCarthy, Senator Shannon Grove, Assemblyman Vince Fong, family and friends of our military members, a conversation with Edwards Air Force Base Commander Brigadier General Matthew Higher and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The episode was filled with patriotism, gratitude and emotion for our military members. You can find it here: tehachapod.libsyn.com/salute-to-freedom-conversation-with-usaf-gen-matthew-higer.

The Government Individual Episodes podcast category covered the body of work for 45 episodes recorded in 2020. Season one launched just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning to spread in the United States and we featured numerous episodes on the latest information available to share with our community. Season one also highlighted local Tehachapi non-profit organizations, talented Tehachapi residents, as well as general government information. You can find the episodes here: tehachapod.libsyn.com.

TehachaPod has entered its second season of producing locally driven show topics and has released 70 episodes since March 2020. TehachaPod broke through the top 100 Apple Government Podcasts for the second time climbing to number 45 on February 17.
