Assemblyman Vince Fong (R-Kern County) called upon Governor Newsom to declare a state of emergency in response to the drought and water allocation reductions to Central Valley communities. Additionally, Assemblyman Fong and other Central Valley state representatives submitted a formal letter to the Governor requesting an emergency declaration and additional funding for food producers who will experience major revenue losses as a result of water access reduction:

"Without adequate water storage in our state, the Central Valley again is a victim of Sacramento's lack of long term planning and flawed water policies. Sacramento's decision to reduce water allocation to our essential farmers who have continued to feed our state throughout the pandemic is unacceptable, and immediate relief is needed. I am calling on the Governor to declare a state emergency so that we can allow more water to flow to our communities, and also to provide additional funding to our food producers to sustain their operation through the drought," stated Assemblyman Vince Fong.
