The Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi honors Tehachapi High School (THS) 2020 graduate Meagan Williams, recipient of the club's $1,000 2020 college scholarship.

Williams will attend Bakersfield College, where she will be playing on the Renegade women's volleyball team.

"I am enrolling as a student athlete in the honors transfer program with plans of transferring to a California State University or University of California," she said in her scholarship application.

A member of the California Scholarship Federation for her academic excellence, Williams, 18, will major in visual communications and graphic design.

Williams has been active in traveling volleyball clubs, in basketball, track and as a coach.

"I began as a dancer for nine years and soon realized my passion was volleyball," she wrote. "I have played club and school volleyball for six years, and sand for three. During the off seasons I ran track for one year and played basketball for two."

In addition to sports, Williams is active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was an officer in the THS Fellowship of Christian Athletes club.

THS Math Dept. Chair Sean Clifton, in recommending Williams for a scholarship, said, "Meagan has a unique ability to encourage and inspire others to be their best."

Williams' parents are Eric Williams, a Kern County firefighter, and Stacie Williams, who teaches kindergarten at Golden Hills Elementary School. Her sister Taylor, 20, attends Missouri Valley College. She has 12-year-old twin siblings, sister Kendall and brother Keenan.
