Tehachapi Museum New Exhibits

And here you can see Charles White sitting at a restaurant called La Chat Noir.

On August 5 the Tehachapi Heritage League will feature a new exhibit of interest to visitors. In addition to an exhibit installed on July 3, we will feature a person, THL President Charles White will have returned from his vacation and will be on hand to answer questions about his trip. Among the places he visited are Paris, the Basque country, and Italy. I'm sure he can be persuaded to share some of his pictures.

A new July exhibit in the textile gallery is a portion of a dinner bell collection which contains 178 bells. Patsy Crow has been collecting dinner bells since the 1970s. Her first bell was a Christmas gift and from there the collection grew to its present size. Some were gifts, some new, some from antique stores and some from foreign countries. Patsy also collects rabbit figurines, decorated plates, small boxes, vintage costume jewelry and unusual handbags. She says, "It seems once you are a collector it becomes a way of life, and is happily shared!"

In the main gallery the Community Case displays scale models of wooden oil derricks constructed by Rufus Thomas, a longtime resident of Tehachapi. The Family case features an exhibit about community volunteer Del Troy.

The Tehachapi Museum is open each First Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. serving wine, champagne, and appetizers. The Museum is located at 310 South Green Street, a short walk from Tehachapi Boulevard. For more information, call the museum at (661) 822-8152.
