Local student gets 1st place at County Fair

The Local Scene

Tehachapi High School senior Turner Williams entered his photo in the Kern County Fair in the photography catagory for 13 to 18 year olds in the Natural Wonders class and came away with a 1st place blue ribbon and a cash prize for his photo.

Turner says, “I was on my way home from working a 6-10 p.m. shift at Albertsons and was just looking out the window when the milky way caught my eye. It was really bright this night and I had to stop and take a photo. I keep my camera with me in my truck most of the time that way I don’t miss unexpected moments like these. I put my camera on a tripod, set the exposure to 30 seconds, the ISO to 2000, and F-stop to 3.5. Currently I’m running the Nikon D600 with Nikon Af-S NIKKOR 24-85mm lens. I actually didn’t really know the grass was there until I saw the photo. What little city light there was reflected nicely off the blades of grass to give them a golden color. It just goes to show that sometimes you can see so much more through the lens of a camera.”
