Lions hold Friendship Night

The Tehachapi Lions Club held their annual Friendship Night on May 21 at the Tehachapi SENIOR CENTER. Lion Ric Williams emceed the evening. Ric shared a brief history of the Lions and reviewed how the Tehachapi Lions Club serves our community and the world.

We honored Monroe High School senior, Kristyn Melton, as our May Student of the Month. We were excited to welcome home members of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Group from EAFB, MSgt Michael Spradley and TSgt Guy DeMarco and EOD Care Package Coordinator, John Nichols. John coordinates the collection and shipment of EOD Care Package items. Our club donates money and items for the care packages. Our club decided to create a fundraising event to support the care packages. All funds raised at our Lions Hot Dog Booth during the September Warbirds Fly-In will be donated to the support of our EOD personnel. We also recognized veterans at our meeting in support of National Military Appreciation Month. Our members and guests represented all branches of our armed forces and represented service from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraqi Freedom and the war in Afghanistan.

Individuals interested in community service are invited to join the Lions Club on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Tehachapi Senior Center.
