WWII Vet tells of war experience

Marvin Belcher was a ball turret gunner on a B17 airplane during World War II. He was stationed in England and flew missions over Germany. He spoke to Kiwanis recently about his war experience.

Belcher was a participant in the Honor Flight program last year and expressed what an emotional experience it was for him. He was impressed with the admiration and attention the veterans received from children and adults who came up to them as they toured historical monuments in Washington D.C.

Rick Zanuto, who helps organize Honor Flights, was present at the meeting. He urged all veterans to join one of these free flights and be as moved as Marvin Belcher was. The flights involve trips to Washington D.C., where the veterans are treated to tributes and tours of monuments and other sights.

Kiwanis meets each Wednesday at noon at Pacino’s. Guests and prospective members are always welcome. Call (661) 822-4340 for further information.
