Freedom Plaza Project awarded

 

Development Services Director Jay Schlosser asked the City Council to award the long awaited Freedom Plaza Project to Cal Prime, Inc. in the amount of $498,000.at the Sept.21 City Council Meeting. This project proposes to construct a public space on the one-half acre lot in downtown Tehachapi located in the southwest corner of Tehachapi Boulevard and Curry Street.

The plans for the plaza include decorative colored concrete, brick paving, monuments to honor our military, landscaping, a parking lot and lighting. The job that began advertising on June 22, 2015 brought in five bids between $498,000 and $850,058. The city has also allocated several years of Community Development Block Grant funds totaling $158,243 as well as an initial sum of $669,500 from the Redevelopment Agency Successor funds to this project.

The City Council voted unanimously to approve the contract.
