Celebration of Life
Born on May 16, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, Betty Hurst was one of two children, her brother being Bob Hurst, born to Leonard and Julia Hurst. She exercised the privilege of living just three years short of a century and made a profound impact on everybody that had the honor of knowing her.
Moving to California early in life, she settled in the town of Lancaster, with her parents being pioneers of the Antelope Valley, and began to implement her legacy there.
After graduating from Antelope Valley High School, she worked various jobs, like waitressing and bartending until beginning a full 26-year career as corrections officer. She was the head of five generations for 12 years.
She loved horses and watching horse racing. She was an avid fan of NASCAR and adopted a firm stance in politics. She is survived by Rebecca Bratcher, Leonard Smith, John Smith, Lloyd Bushnell, Paul Bushnell, Tamie Adams and Steve and David Brawdy. Her memorial service was held on May 2 at Woods Mortuary in Tehachapi, where she lived for more than 60 years.
