Library Spring Book Sale, May 18

Friends of the Tehachapi Library

April 13, 2024

Provided.

The Friends of the Tehachapi Library's Spring Book Sale will be held Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the library courtyard at 212 S. Green Street in Tehachapi.

There will be two areas of books set up in the library courtyard. The first area will have vintage/specialty books and will include very reasonably priced antique and other specialty books. The second sale area is the always popular "Bag Sale" area where you fill a provided bag with books and pay $5 for each bag of books at the cashier's table. Fill as many bags as you like, there's no limit. Clearance for the Bag Sale starts at 2 p.m., when the bag price drops to only $1 per bag. In addition, the continuing sales at the Downstairs Bookshop will be going on as well with Downstairs Bookshop prices as marked.

Members of the Friends of the Library enjoy early access from 9 to 10 a.m. Community membership is $10 a year, available at the door at 9 a.m., or by agreeing to volunteer four hours a month. The funds from all Friends of the Library Book sales go to support programs for children, youth and adults. This includes programs like the upcoming Summer Reading Challenge.

These Spring Book Sales take a lot of effort for the Friends of the Library volunteers to set up and take down. Members of the community can help with these big tasks by volunteering to help out with the "lifting." As always we need help moving the numerous boxes of books from our storage unit over to the library courtyard (from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 17). There is also need for help moving boxes of books from storage at the library out into the courtyard (from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 17).

However, this does come with some benefits to our lifters. They can do a bit of early shopping on Friday night (as early as 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.). They are also welcome to come during the early shopping period on Saturday morning. But we need to have the lifters be in good shape and able to lift 30 pounds. (Have you ever noticed how heavy a box of books can be? If you're reading about a book sale I suspect you have.)

In addition we'll need some lifters to help take down the sale on Saturday afternoon after 4 p.m. That means put unsold books back into storage, donation to nonprofits or whatever needs to be done with them.

If you would like to volunteer, contact the Friends at FOLTehachapi@gmail.com or (661) 750-2818 by Monday, May 13, or signup at http://www.volunteersignup.org/HXKCQ/.

We look forward to hearing from you.
