Our own, Rachel Jager, co-owner of Alchemy Ju Jitsu Gym here in Tehachapi, won the Gold Medal at the National Brazilian Ju Jitsu Federation Competition (NABJJF) on Aug. 12 in Cerritos, California.
Jager has competed in this sport for about three years.
"In past competitions I have not felt fully present and competing with as much intensity as I hoped I could," she reports. "Since I have always been interested in sports psychology, I decided to try sports hypnosis. I found Rosemary Powell, hypnotherapist at Joyful Life Hypnotherapy of Tehachapi. Rosemary is trained in sports hypnosis and has already helped many athletes improve their sport. Together we cleared blocks to my success. She gave me tools and visualizations which I practiced."
She continued with, "No kidding, it was the best competition I've ever had! I was able to dominate the match. My opponent, who came from a prestigious Los Angeles Gym, did not score even one point against me! After working with Rosemary, now I really enjoyed competing instead of being a big ball of nerves."
Jager is looking forward to competing in the World Ju Jitsu competition in Las Vegas in December. Jager concludes, "Sports hypnosis is the most underutilized advantage an athlete can have in their tool kit."
Ju Jitsu is a popular martial art.
"You don't have to be athletic to begin Ju Jitsu," says Jager. "Come do Ju Jitsu and Ju Jitsu itself will get you in shape and good at Ju Jitsu, and call Rosemary."
Alchemy Ju Jitsu Gym has classes for children ages 5 and up, as well as adult classes. The martial arts uniforms, the gi, are available to borrow for starting students. Alchemy Ju Jitsu is located at 20601 Highway 202, Tehachapi.
