Line dancing with Gloria Yeager
September 30, 2023
Ever wondered about line dancing in Tehachapi? As it turns out, there's a very healthy community led by talented and experienced performer Gloria Yeager. For the past 14 years, each Tuesday and Thursday night Yeager has led both beginner and intermediate line-dancing classes.
Yeager's career is both well-established and long-lasting. At 9 years old, her mother put Yeager in dance classes and she's been dancing ever since. It was discovered soon after starting dance that her talents extended to voice as well as body. Over the years, and starting at a young age, Yeager has had the opportunity to tour with and open for the likes of Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac and Three Dog Night. Gloria even recorded an alternative version of The Beach Boys' "Don't Worry Baby" in 1974 with Bruce Johnston himself. From singing and dancing to TV jingles and aerobic self-defense videos, Yeager has done it all.
Before landing in Tehachapi, Yeager held a variety of other careers, including owning and managing multiple restaurants, being an aerobic instructor and owning her own dance studio. Today she's a part time caregiver for the elderly. She's lived in Bear Valley for 20 years, but has nearly 40 years of experience in teaching line dancing under her belt.
Yeager used to teach at Big Papa's Steak House on Tuesday nights, however those classes have been put on hold due to the restaurant's closure. Classes on Thursday evenings at 5 p.m. at P-Dubs in Mountain Bowling remain ongoing. Yeager hopes to find a substitute host soon to bring back a Tuesday or Wednesday night class.
Classes are $5 and are open to everyone: beginners, experts and those who just want to have a good time. Grab a drink, have a bite to eat and enjoy the experience of line dancing!
