20th Congressional District challenger meets Democrats

Kale Dumler and TMDC president, Yvette Benton, greet John Burrows, candidate for Congressional District 20.

John Burrows lived his whole life in Fresno, yet he had not been in Tehachapi until he decided to run for Congress.

He recently came to introduce himself to members of Tehachapi Mountain Democratic Club and recognized that Tehachapi is certainly different from big metropolitan areas. Although, there are similar concerns about housing, jobs, health care, climate change, veteran benefits and more.

"People in this district deserve better representation," he said.

Burrows grew up in a single-parent home, where his mother worked long hours to support the family. After graduating Fresno College, he attended UC Santa Barbara for a while but returned to Fresno where he works for the City of Fresno. In this capacity, he talks with constituents, council members and other officials. Through talking with the people he has learned and knows their needs. He realized how many people are hurting and feeling neglected by Washington. He decided he needed to step up and do whatever he could to make life better for all people.

Burrows is the youngest of the three candidates vying to represent Congressional District 20 – Kevin McCarthy, Marissa Wood and himself. He says young people don't care about politics. They care about the issues, but that seems to be the case for all ages. We need a representative who is forward looking and responds to the needs of constituents.

Tehachapi Mountain Democratic Club meets the first Thursday of each month at Kelcy's Restaurant. See http://www.tehachapidemocrats.com for information about the club.
