'Soundbath' Shanan returning to the Hippie
July 8, 2023
Shanan is a decades long student and teacher of yoga and meditation. She calls herself a "Sacred Gongster" and is looking forward to sharing the healing powers of sound.
Sound baths are exactly what they sound like: you are "bathed" in sound for the purpose of healing. The sounds generally come from gongs and singing bowls. Attendees get into a comfortable position, either sitting or reclining on mats and simply absorb the sound that is being generated for them.
The intentional use of sound for healing and relaxation is nothing new. If you are a music lover, you have already experienced the healing and restorative power of sound. In a sound bath session, gongs and bowls that vibrate at specific frequencies are used to facilitate healing. Those two instruments are not the only ones used in sound healing. The human voice, drums, tuning forks, harmony balls, shakers and more can be used but Shanan has chosen to work with gongs and bowls.
The session will be held at the Hippie on Sunday, July 23 from 3 to 4 p.m. The cost is $20 and space is limited to 25 people. Hippie owner, Sarah Rose, said the last event sold out and expects this one will too, so do not delay in signing up. You can call the store at (661) 822-9797 to sign up or visit them at 20418 Brian Way. A bonus to this event is a complimentary tarot reading for soundbath participants by Jallen Tarot. Space with Jallen is limited as well so sign up early.
Another form of healing that takes place at the Hippie is Kitten Therapy. On Saturday, Aug. 5, the folks from Fixin' Feral Felines will be present along with kittens and cats available for adoption. The last three events resulted in a dozen families being blessed with a new furry healer. If you don't want to wait that long to get your own healing fur baby, reach out to the ladies at Fixin' Feral Felines at email@example.com and they will get you hooked up right away.
