Nicholas Aldava, a graduating senior from Valley Oaks Charter School, will be attending the University of Southern California in the fall.
Aldava had been the president of the Interact Club at the school this past year and was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Tehachapi Rotary Club. USC has given Aldava a $50,000 grant to study Game Development and Interactive Media Design.
Combining his passion for both gaming and music, Nick plans on working in the video game industry. Along with this, he also hopes to double major in the cognitive science field to better understand the human mind and create video games that contain therapeutic elements to help people who do not have access to traditional therapy. Aldava initiated the idea of the Say YES Youth Empowerment Summit to tackle the teen metal health crisis following his trip to RYLA last year. Following much planning, the summit will take place in November of this year.
The Rotary Club of Tehachapi is a volunteer service organization with the motto, "Service Above Self." The club meets on Thursdays at noon.
