We are thrilled to announce that Father Jorge Eliecer Arias, founder behind the Domus Colombia Foundation in Medellin Colombia, will be visiting our town of Tehachapi in July.

Father Jorge's visit presents a unique opportunity for us to learn firsthand about the incredible work of the Foundation and the transformative impact it has on the lives of countless individuals. With its unwavering commitment to eradicate poverty and promote community outreach, the Domus Colombia Foundation stands as a beacon of hope in Medellin, Colombia, and beyond.

History and programs:

The Domus Colombia Foundation was established on July 30, 2010, with its first headquarters located in the Puente Aranda neighborhood, known as Domus San Gabriel. From its inception, the Foundation aimed to address the diverse needs of people living in vulnerable situations. Initially, it provided after school care and tutoring for children. Its efforts soon expanded to include workshops and meal programs serving the homeless, abandoned grandparents and single mothers.

In 2013, recognizing the challenges faced by pregnant women considering abortion due to various circumstances, the Foundation extended its reach to the Rio de Mosquera neighborhood, giving rise to the Domus Esperanza Program. Domus Esperanza symbolizes the essence of life and hope, offering a safe haven and comprehensive support for pregnant women. By providing shelter, care and resources, the Program empowers these mothers to choose life and forge a brighter future for themselves and their children.

In 2016, the Foundation expanded its mission by creating the Domus Santa Rosa program, dedicated to protecting and supporting elderly individuals facing abandonment or vulnerability. A specialized residence was established to offer a nurturing environment for 10 grandmothers under the Foundation's permanent care. Through this initiative, the Foundation not only addresses physical needs but also combats social isolation and neglect.

Recognizing the pressing needs of single mothers who are heads of households in the northern sector of Suba, the Foundation established the Domus Pippo program in 2017. Domus Pippo provides comprehensive support, including academic assistance and psychological monitoring for both the children and their families. By fostering stability and brighter futures, this program creates a positive impact on the lives of these families.

Leadership and vision:

Guiding the Domus Colombia Foundation with unwavering dedication is Father Jorge, a remarkable individual who has devoted his life to serving others. Father Jorge's educational journey has equipped him with a diverse range of knowledge and skills. He completed his primary studies at the Escuela de Varones de Albán school and his high school studies at the Sperandeo Urrea Vocational Center in Itagüí, Antioquia.

Driven by his passion for learning and effecting change, Father Jorge pursued higher education in various disciplines. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical San Juan de Letrán University in Rome and a Bachelor's degree in Theology from the San Buenaventura University in Bogotá. Recognizing the significance of understanding the human mind and behavior, he further pursued psychology studies at the Antonio Nariño University.

Continuing his quest for knowledge and professional development, Father Jorge earned a master's degree in re-education from the Luis Amigo University Foundation and a master's degree in psychology from the European University of Rome. His diverse academic background provides him with a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted needs of individuals and communities.

At the core of Father Jorge's unwavering dedication to service is his deep faith. Guided by his profound spiritual beliefs, he exemplifies the values of compassion, love and empathy in his work with the Domus Colombia Foundation.
