WM's Tehachapi Recycling Facility to close public access

January 11, 2023

On Friday, Jan. 6, WM closed its beverage container buyback center located at 416 N. Dennison Rd., Tehachapi. Its materials recovery facility also will stop accepting material from the public at this time.

Jan. 6 was the final day to bring beverage containers for redemption. The public is directed to FIELD Recycle located at 355 Enterprise Way, Ste. D, Tehachapi to redeem their bottles and cans.

Additionally, the site's materials recovery facility, which had previously accepted inert materials and construction and demolition debris for processing, will discontinue accepting material from the public after Jan. 6. Contractors and residents looking to recycle these materials will be directed to use the diversion area at the Tehachapi Landfill located at 12001 E. Tehachapi Blvd.

"As Tehachapi's largest recycler, WM continues to champion opportunities to give new life to discarded items," said Community and Municipal Manager, Ashley Cortes. "Unfortunately, over the past year, we've seen a decline in public usage, and it no longer makes sense to keep the facility open."

The facility's other operations, which include a propane filling station and local customer service center, will continue to be open to the public Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

"These decisions were not easy to make, and we held off on them as long as we were able," Cortes added. "We hope the community continues to recycle using the alternative drop-off options, as well as their curb-side recycling carts."
