In-N-Out welcome in Tehachapi

City of Tehachapi

City of Tehachapi’s promotional video went viral reaching hundreds of thousands of people across the United States on Facebook, alone, in what has become the most-watched video produced by the City of Tehachapi in the five years of making in-house videos.

On Thursday, Oct. 21 the City of Tehachapi produced a one-minute recruitment video promoting the City of Tehachapi to the In-N-Out Burger corporation. It took off instantly, being shared and picked up by media outlets locally at first, and then outside of Kern County.

“We had hoped the video might make its way to the In-N-Out executives and [they] would consider Tehachapi for a future expansion location. The fact that the video is reaching people across the country is wild,” said Key Budge Community Engagement Specialist.

The City of Tehachapi is reaching out to In-N-Out Burger following the closure of their San Francisco location by that city for failure to enforce vaccine mandates, and is inviting them to Tehachapi to open in a more business-friendly climate.

City Manager Greg Garrett and Economic Development Coordinator Corey Costelloe produced the recruitment video, offering potential sites for a restaurant in the City of Tehachapi, which serves a trade area with over 75,000 people and is adjacent to Highway 58, and the 30,000-plus vehicles a day traveling our busy trade corridor.

“In Tehachapi, you can serve your famous Double-Double with a side of fries, or freedom,” Garrett said in the video. Costelloe added, “We offer you what places like San Francisco will not, a chance to do business in a city that only mandates you serve great food to great people.”

The video offers a quick glimpse of available development sites and reiterates Tehachapi’s commitment to the American Dream and “a darn good burger.”
