Demographics and Economic Opportunity Dashboard Launched

The City of Tehachapi and eImpact have completed a new "Demographics and Economic Opportunity" dashboard that is now active on the city's website http://www.LiveUpTehachapi.com .

The demographics report includes spending habits of consumers within the City of Tehachapi and serves as a tool for both current and potential business owners along with developers and site selectors considering the Tehachapi market for investment.

This updated study includes a host of information and graphics from a variety of data sources and includes an increased trade area that is presently being served by City of Tehachapi businesses. Updated sales data proves that city businesses are providing services to both the unincorporated Greater Tehachapi areas as well as other nearby communities in Eastern Kern County. This data is reflected in total sales numbers along with the updated retail gap analysis.

The introduction of larger corporate entities such as Walmart, Home Depot and Tractor Supply over the last decade have helped position the City of Tehachapi as an economic destination for surrounding communities lacking the retail offerings in their own communities. This latest round of data includes demographic information for the entire trade area, currently housing over 75,000 residents throughout various communities. The positive impact to small businesses is also evident with new independently owned businesses opening Tehachapi storefronts as the consumer base increases.

"The anecdotal evidence over the last few years was telling this story, but it is great to see the actual data presented in a way that shows that our City businesses of all sizes are serving a considerable customer base," said Economic Development Coordinator Corey Costelloe. "We have matured since our last round of data over five years ago and this study represents who we are today."

This product developed by eImpact offers the ability to download data and serves as an open portal for current business owners to better understand their customer base. It also will help potential business owners and investors understand the complexity of the Tehachapi market and the large consumer base being served by the City.

City of Tehachapi accepts Farmers Market from Main Street

With dwindling board members and a lack of events due to COVID-19, Main Street Tehachapi voted to dissolve the organization which has served Downtown Tehachapi since 1999. Recently the Tehachapi City Council voted to assume responsibility for the annual Farmers Market and continue the event with the City serving as the market manager. http://www.liveuptehachapi.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=536.
