CALM daytime zoo operations to temporarily close due to new state mandate

Kern County Superintendent of Schools

December 19, 2020

Due to California’s new stay-at-home order that went into effect recently, many sectors are required to close. Included in this are zoo and museums – CALM’s zoo operation will be closed to the public until further notice. CALM’s Animal Keepers and staff will continue to work to ensure proper care of CALM’s animals.

Because CALM’s HolidayLights is being operated in a drive-thru manner, independent of the zoo’s normal operations, HolidayLights will continue to operate to provide Kern County families with a safe, drive-thru experience that addresses their social and emotional needs during the Holiday season.

HolidayLights at CALM runs nightly through January 2, except on Christmas, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance online at http://www.calmzoo.org, through http://www.Vallitix.com or in-person at all Valley Strong Credit Union branches. Tickets are $30 per vehicle. CALM members and military receive discounts. No busses, RVs or limos permitted.

HolidayLights is designed and installed by Bakersfield resident Josh Barnett and his company Lightasmic!
