What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?

Happy 50th Birthday, Bear Valley Springs! That's right. Our community is now 50 years old and counting.

In the late 1960s, Justin Dart had a vision of this valley as a great getaway community for people from the city, and at the start, that's what he thought it would be – a recreational community for people to visit on weekends and holidays. But, somehow, along the way, families started to move in and retirees thought this would be a great place for fulltime residence.

Now, here we are, 50 years along the way with school buses plying our roads (when we don't have a pandemic); golfers on the greens almost daily, except for inclement weather; a thriving recreation center; dining room; Mulligan Room, as well as tennis and pickleball courts with active membership. The Equestrian Center also continues to thrive. Justin Dart would be amazed at the difference from his original vision.

Celebrations are planned for July 4 to commemorate the anniversary. Check with the Whiting Center for more details.

We recently commemorated Memorial Day. Normally, the Bear Valley veterans invite us to attend a service next to the flag poles but with COVID-19, they decided to hold a small ceremony at 6 p.m. with only a few veterans to raise the flags which were at half-staff, commemorating those who died on the battlefield.

Families can sign up for a T-ball league for boys and girls ages 4-6 now through June 23. The league play runs from July 13 to Aug. 22. Contact Tilly Russell at (661) 821-5537 ext. 410 or bvsyouthsports@gmail.com.

For boys and girls ages 7-13, a baseball camp will take place July 20-23, and sign-ups are open through June 30. Again, contact Tilly Russell.

Bear Valley Springs is a private gated community in which the residents pay an annual association amenities fee. To participate in the above events, a non-member or non-resident must arrange with a friend or family member in the community for a guest pass that would permit them to engage in the activities. Guest passes will be checked.
