Summer Youth Living History Program at Fort Tejon

California State Parks announces that Fort Tejon State Historic Park is now accepting applications for a limited number of openings for youth organizations to participate in free “living history” programs. Youth groups are invited to register for this unique experience where kids are immersed in living for a day on the frontier of a new state called California over 150 years ago.
The Summer Youth Living History Program is tailored to help meet needs for students learning about early California or mid-nineteenth century American history as they assume the role of a United States Dragoon posted at a remote western Army outpost during the California Gold Rush of the 1850s. Hands-on activities are organized throughout the program for youth groups, hosted by their team of staff and volunteers.
Fort Tejon was established in 1854, with the mission of treaty enforcement, peacekeeping and nation building. Fort Tejon served its purpose for ten years and was abandoned in 1864 during the American Civil War. It was designated a State Historic Park in 1940 in order to preserve this unique piece of California history.
