What's Up in Stallion Springs?

Over 100 people attended a retirement party from the Sheriff's Department for Sergeant Fred Wheeler on Saturday, June 9 at his home in Stallion Springs. Wheeler retired after 25 years in Law enforcement, 15 years with the Kern County Sheriff's Department and 11 years in Long Beach. Six of those years at the LBPD were as a motorcycle officer. He also worked in the training department and internal affairs.

He moved to Tehachapi in 2003 and became a Sheriff in 2004. He loves to train people and after coming to Tehachapi he served as the boys' soccer coach at Tehachapi High.

Full retirement didn't last long. He just took a position at California Resources Corporation as Security Adviser.

Police Athletic League

PAL held the annual Stallion Springs Derby Downs Car Races on Saturday, June 16. There were 21 participants and no age divisions this year. Twenty one youth vied for the trophies, which were awarded to the top three racers. First Place went to Krayden Brown, Second Place to Parker Rodriguez and Third Place to Ian Liles.

It was suggested the races go back to age divisions next year.

Police Report

In the month of May, the Stallion Springs Police Department logged four arrests and issued five citations. There were 33 calls for service, 63 reports, 27 want and warrant checks, 75 officer initiated investigations, 19 field interviews and four medical assists. The SSPD also assisted other law enforcement agencies on 14 occasions.

Please report suspicious activity in progress to the SSPD by contacting KCSO dispatch at (661) 861-3110. Do it when you see it. A delay in reporting can allow the suspicious persons to leave the area making it difficult to locate the subjects. Remember to tell the dispatcher that you are in Stallion Springs and requesting a Stallion Springs officer.

The Pool

Summer's here and the pool is open. Open swim hours are Mon. – Fri. 1:30 to 6 p.m. and weekends 11 to 7 p.m. Residents can get swim passes at the CSD office during regular business hours Monday thru Friday.

In addition to open swim hours, water aerobics are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Adult Lap swims Monday and Thursday.

Swim lessons are available for three groups; Guppies, those with little or no experience, Goldfish, having basis water skills and want to learn more, and Dolphins that are looking for more advanced techniques.

Summer Open Gym Hours

Get out of the house this summer and join the fun. The Gym will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m.

National Night Out

National Night Out 2018 will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Local businesses and First Responders will be there to meet and greet the community. The event is sponsored by the Stallion Springs Police Department and Neighborhood Watch. Local businesses will have booths providing community safety information, kids and adult games, drawings for prizes. A movie will be provided for the kids, along with a bounce house. Food and beverages will be available.

CERT

Sergeant Gary Crowell of SSPD has requested SSCERT assistance for the Challenge the Bear Bike Ride on Saturday, June 30. Briefing will be at 6:30 a.m. hours at the CERT Stallion Springs Headquarters.

Other upcoming events where CERT will assist include, Saturday, Aug. 11, Cheers to Charity; Saturday, Sept. 15, Gran Fondo Bike Ride and Saturday, Oct. 6, Stallion OktoberFest.

CERT regular monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the CSD EOC room.

Stallion Springs Board of Directors

The Board meets on the third Tuesday of every month. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 17, at 6 p.m. in the CSD Board Room.
