Flying the Space Shuttle – Tehachapi High School sophomores (l-r) Magnus Loken, Alyssa Lundberg and Ethan Riley operate the full-size Space Shuttle cockpit simulator at the STEAM Center in a dedicated building on the THS campus. The simulator is one of a handful in the country. The students utilize original NASA Shuttle operations manuals.
A year after Joel Beckmann's death on Aug. 31, 2016, the STEAM Center (science, technology, engineering, arts/agriculture and mathematics) is bursting with programs and ideas. STEAM provided 2,200 solar eclipse glasses and instruction to Tehachapi schools. Beckmann was STEAM's driving spirit.
