    The Tehachapi Lions Club successfully completed their 4th Annual Apple Drop on Oct. 9 during the Tehachapi Apple Festival. Due to the generosity of others, the Lions will be able to donate funds to Christmas for Seniors in Tehachapi and the Lions Diabetes Foundation.     Members of the Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi attended the Installation Dinner of 2016-2017 Lt. Governor John Sullivan in Bakersfield. The installation was conducted by Pete Edwards who is Governor of Kiwanis International California-Nevada-Hawaii District Division 33.     The Tehachapi Lions Club was honored to welcome home the Edwards Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal Airmen who recently returned from their six month deployment overseas. While deployed, the Tehachapi Lions Club, in conjunction with the 412th Civil Engineering Group, sent a taste of home to the airmen in the form of care packages loaded with items that are not easily obtained where they were deployed.     At the Oct. 11 meeting of the Tehachapi School Board, Superintendent Susan Andreas-Berval introduced Dennis Franey, the new District Interim CEO, to the School Board and to those in attendance. Franey, who is semi-retired, was appointed by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. He told everyone that he was delighted to be in Tehachapi.     Many years ago when an unacceptable nitrate level was discovered at the water well located at Snyder and D Street, making it undrinkable, the water district capped the well. Fast forward to the last few years of draught when it became increasingly difficult to justify using potable water on the playing fields at Jacobsen Middle School and Warrior Stadium.
