The POA annual Dinner Dance on June 2 was a great success. Over 110 people attended for an evening of food and dancing. Gifts were provided for door prizes and a silent auction was held. The group made over $4,000 to go toward the annual scholarships given each year to Stallion high school seniors. Tehachapi BMX racers competed in the Golden State National BMX races May 18-20 at Metro BMX track in Bakersfield. Nate Howard won his third National 40-43 Novice Division race, which was also his 10th win on Sunday. This allows him to move up to the Intermediate division and race with clip shoes. Nate placed 2nd on Friday and 3rd on Saturday. Sidney Howard placed 4th both Friday and Saturday. Local Tehachapi racer Rich Souza won the Hard Top class on June 2. Souza drives a 1950 Dodge/Plymouth coupe. He purchased the car from Robert Tucker of Shafter, Calif., who built and raced the car for many years. Congrats to Rich! This Dodge coupe is the only small block dodge powered hardtop in the division. At the June 4 City Council meeting the Police Department Community Room was filled to overflowing with people waiting to weigh-in on the subject of SB54, the Sanctuary State bill signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown last October. Postings on social media had erroneously lead many to believe that members of the City Council supported the measure and they wanted their voice to be heard.
