Meet Your New Neighbors

October 28, 2023

Kim and David Brandon moved to Tehachapi in August of this year from Acton, California. Kim discovered Tehachapi when her equestrian group of 40-something cowgirls, calling themselves the "Galloping Gourmets," made a camping trip to Bear Valley Springs. Kim began a campaign to move to Tehachapi. Once David saw the community, he was on board, as well.

Finding a suitable home for them and their equine family proved to be more difficult than they anticipated as the market was somewhat limited at that time and what was available was going fast. At one point they gave up looking for a house and bought land. They were planning to build until they came across the perfect house in the perfect location and they love the neighborhood.

Kim has ridden horses much of her life. She says that until they moved to Tehachapi, David would ride only occasionally - like Mother's Day and Kim's birthday. Now, she says, he enjoys riding much more often. David is an attorney so is able to do much of his work from home. Kim is a retired school librarian and, of course, it is her job to take care of their two horses, Jaeger and Scout.

Although Kim is a Californian born in Burbank, David is from New York, born in Massapequa on Long Island. They have four grown daughters. Two live in Canyon Country and are the moms of the Brandon's three grandchildren. Their other two daughters live in Oakland and Malibu. Kim said that David is a long-time member of the Masons and she has also been active with Eastern Star; although they have not yet attended the local lodge. Aside from being an equestrienne, Kim is a crafter and is looking forward to finding out about local groups. She said that David enjoys playing chess as well as the challenge of a good crossword puzzle.

When David is away, Kim has the company of Tillie, a sweet dog that is part Border Collie and part Corgi. And then, of course, she has Jaeger and Scout and is looking forward to being part of local equestrian groups.

Welcome to Tehachapi, Kim and David. We know you will enjoy your new life in the Tehachapi Mountains.
