August 31, 2019

On Aug. 11 the Tehachapi Police Department was made aware of a possible criminal threat posted to social media. The possible threat was related to intentions to engage in a shooting at a local retailer.

Detectives immediately began an investigation and located additional posts from the same individual depicting photographs of an assault rifle. The suspect was identified as Kevyn Devereaux, 29, of Tehachapi. Devereaux was located and interviewed at the Tehachapi Police Department and admitted to posting the threat through his social media account. Devereaux indicated he was aware of the recent mass shootings and acknowledged members of the public would likely take the threat seriously. He further indicated he had no intention of carrying out the threat and was “messing around.”

Detectives obtained a search warrant and conducted a search at Devereaux’s residence located in the 21600 Block of Brook Drive in Tehachapi. During the search, detectives located five firearms including one assault rifle, as well as ammunition believed to belong to his roommate.

Devereaux was arrested and booked into Kern County Jail for criminal threats.
