Each Memorial Day Weekend, Tehachapi's Mountain Valley Airport plays host to a Vintage Sailplane Regatta, where vintage and classic sailplanes from the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s are displayed and flown.

There is an undeniable beauty in the form of vintage sailplanes. For restorers there is a satisfaction working in the old methods of aircraft construction and restoration. For pilots there is a thrill to flying and feeling the historic gliders and sailplanes from the first half of the 20th century.

The 2019 Regatta will take place May 25-26 at Mountain Valley Airport located at 16334 Harris Rd. in Tehachapi. Pilots local to Tehachapi will be keeping their hangars at the airport open all day for visitors to view and explore. On Sunday morning, weather permitting, there will be a spot landing contest where all pilots try their hand at landing closest to a marked point on the runway.
