The newest exhibit at the Tehachapi Museum features the unique handmade pottery of Jim Yurk. Since his death in 2012, Jim's wife has searched for a home for the hundreds of objects he had completed before his passing. A variety of Yurk's work in stoneware, including bowls, mugs, plates, sea urchins, fish, acorn squash and large flowers are on display at the Museum. All of Yurk's pottery will be available for purchase with savings of up to 50 percent.

After he retired from a 33 year career as an aerospace engineer, Yurk pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a full time potter. His creations won many awards and were exhibited at juried art shows as far away as New Mexico. Yurk also exhibited at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, San Luis Central Coast Craftmakers Show, Maturango Museum, Santa Barbara Museum of History, Sierra Madre Friends of the Library Art Show, Sierra Madre Creative Arts and Descanso Gardens in LaCanada Flintridge.

His large flowers measure from 16 to 22 inches in width and include double flowers, made as separate pieces and then fused together in the firing process. Each is bisque fired and glazed separately before fusing together. They make a spectacular impact when hung on the wall and sold extremely well at Descanso Gardens in LaCanada Flintridge. Many local homes feature his spectacular flowers on their walls.
