Charles White.

It was announced at the November 12 Planning Commission meeting that long-time commissioner Charles White had submitted his resignation due to health concerns. As a result it fell to the City Council at their Nov. 18 meeting to vote to conduct a search for a new commissioner. The Council voted to advertise for a replacement. Applications will be brought to the Council at their Jan. 21 meeting. The new commissioner's term will expire on June 30, 2025. The Planning Commission reviews all plans that will eventually come before the City Council and makes recommendations on future city growth among a myriad of other issues.

Development Services Director Jay Schlosser asked to be the one to speak before the City Council regarding the years of service Commissioner White had given the city. Charles White had served on the Planning Commission for sixteen years and was involved in projects including the development of the 2014 Zoning Code and the 2020 City General Plan, as well as the planning for the coming of WalMart. For many years he served on the Board of Main Street Tehachapi, the Tehachapi TOURISM COMMISSION, the Heritage League and, more recently, the new Tehachapi Mural Committee.

Schlosser added that White was also an invaluable asset during the restoration of the 104-year-old Tehachapi Depot in 2014. He will be missed as part of the Commission.

The Tehachapi City Council meets on the first and third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. They are currently meeting at the Police Department Community Room, 220 W. C St.
